Clearer thinking. Better choices.

BUILD CAPACITY BEFORE PRESSURE SETS THE PACE

High performance needs capacity before pressure becomes the norm.

Build attention, recovery, judgment and constructive relationships through everyday practice—and support them with realistic workloads, resources and clear priorities.

Attentive leadership. Clear communication. Support that fits the work.

Healthcare leaders need attention, judgment and compassion while dealing with real operational constraints. Mindfulness can support noticing and pausing; it belongs alongside practical action on staffing, workload and established care procedures.

  1. More deliberate responses to competing demands.

Notice the urge to rush or react. Use established clinical and escalation procedures to clarify what needs attention and who must be involved.

  2. Better listening when concerns are raised.

Give the colleague’s concern your attention before forming a defence. Ask what is happening in the work and what support is needed.

  3. Greater awareness of emotional carryover.

Recognise when a difficult interaction is affecting the next one. Where feasible, pause or seek support before moving on.

  4. More constructive coordination.

Practise clear handovers and calm questions during routine work. Agree on ownership and escalation before an exceptionally demanding day.

  5. Capacity supported by leadership decisions.

Make workload, staffing and recovery part of the discussion. Do not ask employees to use mindfulness to compensate for unresolved operating conditions.

These are potential benefits and areas for practice, not guaranteed outcomes. Mindfulness means noticing what is happening and creating space for a deliberate response. Positive Intelligence® adds a mental fitness framework for practising that response in everyday work.
